How to Manage Cellulite

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a very common, harmless skin condition that causes lumpy, dimpled flesh on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen.

The exact cause of cellulite is unknown, but it appears to result from an interaction between the connective tissue in the dermatological layer that lies below the surface of the skin, and the layer of fat that is just below it.

Hormones play an important role in cellulite, estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are part of the cellulite production process.

One theory is that as estrogen in women decreases, in the approach to menopause, blood flow to the connective tissue under the skin also decreases.

Lower circulation means less oxygen in the area, resulting in lower collagen production. Fat cells also enlarge as estrogen levels fall.

There's no way to completely eliminate cellulite. Some lifestyle changes may help reduce it though.

  1. Try to increase your water intake to avoid entering dehydration state.
  2. Dietary habits: Daily eat healthy and balanced meals.
  3. Increase your metabolism by increasing your overall physical activity.
  4. Some reports suggest improvement in cellulite appearance through laser, massages, etc.

In summary, cellulite is mainly, genetic but other factors might contribute to cellulite production. Taking care of your eating habits and lifestyle help reduce its appearance.
