Breakfast Tips & Mistakes

Since we were kids we’ve learnt that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but is that a myth or a fact? Studies have shown that breakfast controls your food consumption across the entire day, it also directly impacts your mood, performance and concentration levels.

So how does breakfast set the pace?

Research has shown that skipping breakfast altogether will lead to more instances of feeling hungry throughout the day and ultimately will lead to snacking and larger portion consumption. So is that an excuse to gorge out on breakfast buffets?

No, as with all things, balance is key. Making sure your morning meal does not exceed 25 to 30 % of your daily caloric needs is pivotal.

Diet and Skin Aging

Aging is a natural phenomenon in human life, it has always been a human struggle to fight and delay the signs of aging. Aging reflects in multiple aspects of our bodies none more so than our skin. Skin, the largest organ in the human body, is a barrier that separates the human body from the environment. It not only protects us from external damage but also retains the water in our body.

Skin has always had a cosmetic component to it, historically fair unblemished skin was a sign of beauty. It is only natural that in our never-ending human battle against aging and mortality, skin should take the centerfield. There are two factors that contribute to skin aging, one being internal such as hormone levels, genotypes, and endocrine metabolism and the second being external factors such as ultraviolet radiation, nutritional levels, and chemical pollution we can also call these two factors chronological aging and photo-aging respectively.

How to Manage Cellulite

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a very common, harmless skin condition that causes lumpy, dimpled flesh on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen.

The exact cause of cellulite is unknown, but it appears to result from an interaction between the connective tissue in the dermatological layer that lies below the surface of the skin, and the layer of fat that is just below it.

Hormones play an important role in cellulite, estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are part of the cellulite production process.

One theory is that as estrogen in women decreases, in the approach to menopause, blood flow to the connective tissue under the skin also decreases.

Lower circulation means less oxygen in the area, resulting in lower collagen production. Fat cells also enlarge as estrogen levels fall.
